You may have heard that the Oakland Raiders have been given permission to relocate to Las Vegas. Since a stadium hasn’t been built yet, they’ll have to wait a little while. It appears as though the goal for the stadium to open is sometime in 2020.

A location for the Raiders/UNLV stadium hasn’t been chosen just yet. The most popular options are on the south end of the Vegas Strip near Mandalay Bay - the large parcel of land across the street seems to be the favorite. There’s also land a little more south that’s also a popular location since it would have better access to the freeway.

The Raiders are cool, but professional sports actually begins sooner in Las Vegas. The Vegas Golden Knights NHL team will take to the ice at T-Mobile Arena for their first season later this year. Preseason games are already scheduled for September and October. Tickets haven't gone on sale yet.

The thing that both the stadium and arena have in common is their relative proximity to one another. Regardless of the exact location for the stadium, both will be located near the south end of the Vegas Strip. Proximity to the action is always important for maximum fun. There’s just an energy you get being near events that you won’t find elsewhere.

The south end of the Vegas Strip is mostly home to MGM Resorts International properties. The MGM Resorts International casinos closest to the stadium are Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and Excalibur. New York-New York, Monte Carlo, and MGM Grand are closer to T-Mobile arena but still relatively close to the football stadium sites. The M Life Rewards players club is connected with each of these properties.

Players clubs are an important part of the Las Vegas diet because the rewards can be anywhere from a discount in a gift shop to free hotel rooms for a week. Unlike some players clubs, M Life Rewards will reward you for any spending you do on site from gambling to dinner.

If you want to be near the action and get the best rewards, you’re going to have to build up some equity with the respective players clubs. This means you'll have to spend time and money at the properties related to the players clubs at the casinos near the south end of the Vegas Strip.

This isn’t an article about MGM Resorts and their players club. Tropicana and Hooters are also relatively close to the arena and future stadium. Marquee Rewards is the players club for Tropicana and another casino even further south on the Vegas Strip, M Resort. You can earn rewards for Tropicana at any Marquee Rewards/Penn National Gaming property in the country. Hooters is independently operated and has their own players club. It may be easier to earn rewards at Hooters, but you're limited to that casino.

Increasing the size of the stadium and arena map slightly you’ll find the Silverton, South Point, and the Orleans casinos a little further away. The Silverton has pitched themselves as the home casino of the Raiders. There’s a ton of parking lot room for tailgating at the Silverton and this is one of the most fun small casinos you’ll find away from the action of the Vegas Strip.

South Point is a little farther away but, besides nightlife, they have just about everything you’d want or need in a casino. They also have one of the sharpest sportsbooks with a separate race book. I’m told they also have a great hamantaschen, but that’s beside the point. Both Silverton and South Point operate their own players clubs, respectively. If you’d like to build up equity at either casino, you’ll have to do it on site.

The Orleans is a part of a larger players club. Boyd Gaming’s B-Connected players club works at Aliante, Cannery, Eastside Cannery, California, Fremont, Gold Coast, Main Street Station, The Orleans, Suncoast, Sam’s Town. The benefit with the Orleans is that you have an opportunity to stay and play at casinos all over Las Vegas. Points here, at Silverton, and at South Point can only be earned when gambling.

T-Mobile Arena is already hosting concerts and other events. The NHL season will start before you know it. Even though the football stadium is years away, it doesn't hurt to think about it today. The stadium will be home to the Raiders, UNLV football, and will host many other large events and concerts. Being closer to the action makes a trip more convenient and fun in many ways.

If you plan on visiting Las Vegas for a game you might want to start building up equity with these casinos and players clubs. Even if you’re getting the lowest level of discount, you’re getting something.
