Car dealership hands out $420,000 thanks to Seahawks' shutout

The Seattle Seahawks' 23-0 shutout victory over the New York Giants Sunday was rock bottom for the G-Men's painful season. But for a car dealership in Washington, it may have been just as painful.

Jet Chevrolet in Federal Way, Washington, will have to pay out a total of $420,000 to 12 individuals thanks to the Seahawks' manhandling the dismal Giants at MetLife Stadium.

The dealership, which is outside Seattle, ran the contest for customers and non-customers alike, for the chance to win $35,000 apiece, if the Seahawks' defense could pitch a shutout in New York. It was the first time the Giants failed to score at home during the regular season since 1995.

"This is crazy," Jim Johnson, one of the owners of the dealership, said, via Darren Rovell of ESPN.com. “We never expected that we’d actually be giving away the money."

Luckily, the dealership took out insurance for the promotion, costing them about $7,000.
