Tebow most influential athlete, but doesn't mean much to oddsmakers

May 6, 2013 |
Tim Tebow has been announced as the most influential athlete in sports in 2013, according to a Forbes Magazine survey.

Unfortunately, and surprisingly, "the most influential athlete" has had little-to-no impact on lines and odds in his NFL career.

When the New York Jets sacrificed a fourth-round draft pick to the Broncos for the services of Tebow prior to the 2012 NFL season, the transaction had no influence on the Jets' Super Bowl odds.

“The Jets already draw, so until we can understand what his role is going to be, we won’t move anything,” Jay Rood, sportsbook director at the MGM Mirage, told Covers when the trade went down last year. “They’re adding another possibly-talented player, who may not even see the field.”

As it turned out, Rood was right. The quarterback played sparingly and was 6-of-8 for 39 yards passing in 12 games for the Jets last season.

Tebow was released by the Jets a week ago. CarbonSports.ag has posted props odds on Tebow’s next stop, setting “Signing with an AFC team” and “Signing with an NFC team” as -110 co-favorites.
